Smokes well, nice finish, looks nice, decent bowl size. Stem is quite tight getting it connected to the bowl
Nice woodworking. I found this one to be pretty well finished for the price. Quality is very good overall. I've tried a couple from this brand and some have had blemishes, so I think there's a bit of a quality control variance. But this one I found to be very good. Comes with a nice sleeve. Sold in a quality box that could be suitable as a gift as well.
This pipe is nicely made and finished, and could be an interesting addition to your collection, or a nice gift. It comes in a plush velvet drawstring pouch inside a sophisticated-looking black box. It also includes a little tobacco rating card to record your preferences. The style is typically called a "churchwarden" because supposedly the long stem allowed holding the bowl out the church window while being smoked by a church official. It was also sometimes called a "reading pipe", as the length held it out of the way of blocking a book, as well as keeping smoke away from the eyes. It could still be useful in that way if that's a consideration. The long stem also lets the smoke cool a bit more than a shorter pipe. The bowl is about 1-1/4" deep, and the stem attaches quite firmly to it. In fact, it's such a tight fit that I worry a bit about overstressing it while connecting or removing it. I try to make sure not to put any sideways force on it that might make the stem split or the bowl stub break off. I'm seriously considering sanding down the stub a tiny bit if it doesn't loosen up some with use. I've thought of putting the bowl in the refrigerator for a while to shrink it before mounting it, but that fix wouldn't improve later removal efforts.
I recently purchased the Obetis Churchwarden Briar Tobacco Pipe, and it has quickly become my favorite. The handmade craftsmanship is evident in every detail, from the smooth briar wood to the elegantly bent long stem. It provides a cool, enjoyable smoke and is comfortable to hold for extended periods. The design is both classic and stylish, making it a great addition to any pipe collection. Whether you’re a seasoned pipe smoker or just starting out, this pipe is a fantastic choice.
It just isn’t well made. It doesn’t set when installing the pieces together. The bowl is shallow and doesn’t stay lit as expected. The price matches quality.
