This large Churchwarden briar pipe seems to be pretty well made, nice clean smooth briar bowl, stem fits together well, looks very nice and is amazingly lightweight for its size. Has a huge charcoal lined bowl and includes care instructions. Storage bag is also included, however the full pipe does not fit into it properly, and this pipe seems unusually costly for what it is as a non-European made smoking pipe.
First off the box is really nice and could be presented as such with no wrapping or bow. The pipe itself has a nice weight to it and is well balanced. Its in two parts which makes it easy to put it the included bag for storage or travel. The bowl has a nice depth to it and is polished which gives it a attractive veneer. The long stem gives it overall a more classic look. Very happy with this product.
This is a nice pipe, but I am not impressed enough to pay $70 for it. I don't feel that the quality is quite there. It smokes well enough, simple to clean and configure (not a fan of filters) and it looks nice enough. It has a decent weight and is easy to hold.
To cut to the chase, it's a nice pipe and is very well made. No issues at all, it's a good shape, it's well made, everything fits together nicely, the woodgrain is nice, etc.The only issue to decide with choosing this pipe, is I have a hard time saying that the quality is truly up to the current price of almost 70 dollars. At that price point, I'd expect a little bit more as far as quality of woodworking on the pipe, and selection of high end wood with no knots or inclusions. This sounds picky, but I guess at some point you earn the right to be picky if you're spending 3 plus times the amount of a pipe with the same functionality. If you're paying for looks and finish, then the finish is part of the critique. It's not bad, just not perfect.
